MUSEUMS

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, located in New York City, is the largest art museum in the United States and one of the ten largest in the world. Its permanent collection contains more than two million works, divided among seventeen curatorial departments. The main building, located on the eastern edge of Central Park along Manhattan’s Museum Mile, is by area one of the world’s largest art galleries. There is also a much smaller second location at The Cloisters in Upper Manhattan that features medieval art.

The American Museum of Natural History, located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, New York City, is one of the largest museums in the world. Located in park-like grounds across the street from Central Park, the museum complex comprises 27 interconnected buildings housing 45 permanent exhibition halls, in addition to a planetarium and a library. The museum collections contain over 32 million specimens of plants, humans, animals, fossils, minerals, rocks, meteorites, and human cultural artifacts, of which only a small fraction can be displayed at any given time, and occupies 1,600,000 square feet. The Museum has a full-time scientific staff of 225, sponsors over 120 special field expeditions each year, and averages about five million visits annually.

The Museum of Modern Art’s renowned collection of modern and contemporary art includes Vincent van Gogh’s The Starry Night and Andy Warhol’s Gold Marilyn Monroe, along with works by Jackson Pollock, Jasper Johns, Cindy Sherman, Elizabeth Murray, and many other great artists of our time. MoMA’s collection also showcases photography, film, architecture, design, media, and performance art, and offers shopping and fine and casual dining options.

Saks Fifth Avenue is an American department store chain owned by multinational corporation Hudson’s Bay Company, which operates the flagship store and corporate headquarters in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. It competes with high-end specialty stores in Manhattan, notably Bergdorf Goodman, Barneys New York, and Bloomingdale’s. It also competes with luxury retailers; Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, as well as corporate cousin Lord & Taylor.
