8 Prize-Winning Travel Images You’ll Remember
The power of travel to create cherished lifelong memories is priceless. One of the ways we keep those cherished memories alive is through the travel images we capture.
To remind us of the happiness that these special vacation experiences create, every year Virtuoso celebrates the finest travel images taken by its 9,800 travel advisors in 30 countries around the world. New this year: advisors were invited to submit either photos or videos. The eighth annual Virtuoso Advisor Photo & Video Contest attracted an impressive 983 entries.
A separate contest invites the clients of Virtuoso advisors to submit their best travel images. This year, the Virtuoso Traveler Photo & Video Contest was also expanded to include video submissions. In its fourth year, the contest drew 856 entries.

Grand Prize
Annette Sordoni, Protravel International, Encino, California
“Please Bring Those Bags to My Room” – Paris, France
Upon returning to the Peninsula Paris after a day in the City of Lights, Sordoni saw a mirage of a bellman bringing designer bags to her room. “The dream-like atmosphere of the Peninsula lobby does help one believe in magic!” she says of the photo.
First Place
Kayla Zeigler, Destination Europe, Columbus, Ohio
“Dreaming of La Dolce Vita” – Positano, Italy
Zeigler, last year’s third place winner, takes first prize this year for her image of the harbor in the picturesque town
as seen from Virtuoso property Le Sirenuse. She says, “It was in the morning and the harbor was just starting to wake up. The views from Le Sirenuse are some of the best in all of the Amalfi Coast and the photos taken with the Duomo included are synonymous with Positano and the Amalfi Coast.”
Second Place
Alex Facy, Phil Hoffmann Travel, Hyde Park, Australia
“Swedish Lapland” – Harads, Sweden
Facy captured an image of her son Sebastian playing outside in -18 degree Fahrenheit (-28 degree Celsius) temperatures. She adds, “The cold did not stop him having fun!”
Third Place
Rocio Zamora, International Travel Group, Lima, Peru
“Are You Looking at Me?” – Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Uganda
Zamora says, “His eyes penetrated into my soul.”
Grand Prize
Randy Ubillos
Advisor – Ken Neibaur, Cardoza Bungey Travel, Palo Alto, California
“Antarctica and South Georgia Island” – Antarctica
Ubillos captured the video during a three-week journey on board the National Geographic Explorer. He comments, “We saw an amazing amount of wildlife including penguins and seals.”
First Place
Robert Maynard
Advisor – David Ourisman, Brownell, Birmingham, Alabama
“Slot Canyons” – Antelope Canyon, Arizona
Maynard snapped the image during a stay at Virtuoso property Amangiri. The family explored the scenic Antelope Slot Canyon one day – perfect for a photo backdrop.
Second Place
Farah Read
Agency – Travelwise, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic
“Canyons” – Park City, Utah
The photo was taken during Read’s honeymoon, when the newlyweds enjoyed the skiing in the popular Utah resort town.
Third Place
Mortimer Finkernagle
Advisor – Doria Gomez, Admiral Travel International, Sarasota, Florida
“Fira to Oia Hike” – Santorini, Greece
The image was captured during a four-hour hike on Santorini, between the towns of Fira to Oia. Finkernagle observes, “This was outside one of the many churches found on the island. My wife put her photography skills to work and directed me as I awkwardly followed her instructions.” The Santorini stay was the third leg of the couple’s Greek honeymoon.
