Every year Virtuoso asks its advisors where they’re sending their in-the-know clients – and what types of travel are most popular. Their insights are compiled in the Virtuoso Luxe Report. It predicts which destinations will be most in demand for the coming year.
In 2015, a new top trend has emerged: river cruising. It was the first time in five years that multigenerational travel fell from the top slot.
Italy was the top destination for international travel, families and honeymooners
But where will upscale travelers venture this year? The hottest destinations for the year ahead as predicted by the Virtuoso Luxe Report are:
Italy
Always a favorite, Italy topped three categories in this year’s Luxe Report: international travel, family travel and honeymoons.
New York
For the second year in a row, the Big Apple takes the number-one spot for most popular U.S. destination. It bested destinations such as Maui and Napa/Sonoma.
Croatia toppled Cuba this year to become the most popular emerging destination
Croatia
Upscale travelers are discovering the compelling history and scenery in this country. So Virtuoso travel advisors named it their top emerging destination. Last year’s top pick, Cuba, came in third after Myanmar/Burma.
The Mediterranean
Cruise aficionados will never tire of the ports along the Mediterranean. It was named most popular cruise itinerary for the second year in a row. The second-place finisher confirms Europe’s desirability for cruise itineraries: European river cruises.

Costa Rica
Adventurous travelers can’t get enough of the Central American country’s recreational opportunities, with its mountains, water and forest. It’s the Virtuoso Luxe Report’s top adventure travel destination this year. It finished ahead of last year’s first-place destination, South Africa. That fell to number two this year.
